Test Protocol for Peak Flow

  1. Fit the mouthpiece to the Peak Flow Meter.
  1. Ensure that the pointer is set to zero on the scale.
  1. Hold the Peak Flow Meter so that your fingers are clear of the scale and slot. Do not obstruct the holes at the end of the Peak Flow Meter.

  1. Stand up if possible. Take a deep breath, place the Peak Flow Meter in the mouth and hold horizontally.
  1. Close the lips around the mouthpiece, then blow as hard and as fast as possible.

  1. Note the number on the scale indicated by the pointer.
  1. Return the pointer to zero and repeat the procedure twice more to obtain three readings. Mark the highest of the three readings.
