Test Protocol when using Skinfold Calipers

Measurements taken on the subject's dominant side.

The 4 sites to be measured are:

  • Tricep parallel to long axis, midway between shoulder & elbow, on the back of the upper arm
  • Bicep parallel to long axis, midway between shoulder & elbow, on the front of the upper arm
  • Subscapular diagonally, 1cm below inferior angle of the scapula
  • Suprailiac diagonally, just above the iliac crest

Finding the location for the bicep and tricep measurements.

With the subject's arm flexed at 90 degrees, locate the midpoint between the top of the shoulder and the tip of the elbow.

This is a picture showing how to find the correct location for the tricep and bicep skinfold measurement.
